Many sports can be practised all through the year. Pontechianale offers a variety of skiing options ranging from downhill skiing slopes from 1600 m up to Punta Tre Chiosis (2700 m) all easily reachable through chairlifts and skilifts. The ideal locations for cross-country skiing lovers are the high- altitude Chianale and Bellino areas which also give the possibility to de-tour from the skiing tracks and do ski touring. |

Ski mountaineering is also practised especially in late winter. Other interesting options are snow shoe tours and for the most adventurous sports lovers ice climbing.
During the summer the valley offers wind sports like hang gliding and paragliding as well as windsurfing in the Pontechianale lake where fishing is also possible.
A remarkable variety of options are offered to the mountain walkers: from trekking, climbing and hiking to horseriding. Possible destinations are the Alevé forest, the enormous variety of alpine lakes, or high-altitude mountain shelters. Local cuisine is another attractive point. The top dish is ravioles (special gnocchi from the Varaita Valley) but also a huge variety of mountain cheese, like, for example, the tasty tomin dal Mel and the Grigio di Becetto. Picking mushrooms and chestnuts is also part of the mountain fun. |
